Sewer connection installation for a Leeds based service provider

Introduction

We were called out to assist a Leeds based service provider who were drainage contractors on a housing development; 3 and 4 Fox Villas. They are a civil engineering group who have various solution providing subsidiaries. Their challenge was that they were having problems with a foul water sewer connection they had installed. The access points were on a residential street which provided access for several residents.

As specialists in the field, we were asked to consult and fix the job. Due to the knock-on effect of their being issues with the space, including access, the build had already experienced setbacks of over 5 weeks.

The challenges

A key challenge that we faced when attending this job was establishing relations with the residents of the street. They were understandably frustrated with another road closure as they had already experienced 5 weeks of this when the first sewer connection was installed. As a direct result of this our first application for a road, closure was denied.

It was essential to the installation that we closed the road, so our External Operations Manager Dan Simpson knocked on resident’s doors to apologise for the inconvenience and explain exactly what the team wanted to do. He was the point of call if they had any issues or queries. Express clear solutions also convinced the council that there was no other way to complete the drainage job without closing the road. We pointed out that for the overall build to be completed, this phase of works needs to be finished as soon as possible. They agreed and works began.
